Neutron activation analysis (NAA) was launched in 1936, and has since then under-gone a dramatic evolution with respect to
instrumentation and applications. From a few selected examples throughout these years, it is concluded that NAA exhibits a
number of outstanding features which are of lasting value up to the present day. This should also be seen in the light of
recent developments which are paving the way to more effective, new and specific applications.
