To allow people in closed groups such as clubs to more efficiently retrieve documents from the WWW, this paper proposes a
retrieval system that incrementally optimizes a number of fixed search goals. Optimization involves observing how people in
the group rate the documents returned in comparable searches. The search goal selected by the user allows the system to effectively
(and automatically) prune the search results retrieved by free keyword searches. Tests show that the system provides better
performance than existing search heuristics.
