The development of Problem Solving Environments (PSEs) makes it possible to gain extra insight into the solution of numerical
problems by integrating the numerical solver and solution visualisation into one package. In this paper we consider building
a PSE using IRIS Explorer and SCIRun. The differences in these two PSEs are contrasted and assessed. The problem chosen is
the numerically demanding one of elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The usefulness of these packages for present and future use
is discussed.
