Abstract

One hypothesis about the ethological problem “Why and how had the type of face which we fell handsome been phylogenetically determined” is offered. Face is one of important visual factors in selecting a sexual partner in modern men. During the human evolution face features of sapiens had changed in a definite direction from presapiens features. Simple questionnaire experiments showed that young female humans felt sapiens-characteristics-emphasized face sexiest or handsomest and felt presapiens-characteristics-emphasized face ugliest among several types of faces. We sapiens may have phylogenetically acquired sexual releasing mechanism which makes us feel sapiens-characteristic features handsome and presapiens ones ugly as the result of sexual isolation.
