Fractures of the cuboid are very rare. During the last 10 years four patients with isolated fractures of the cuboid have been treated in our hospital. The displaced fractures were treated by open reduction, bone grafting where necessary, and internal fixation. At the time of follow-up the results concerning pain and function were good to excellent and better than those previously reported for conservative treatment. We recommend this treatment for fractures with displacement of one or more of the articular surfaces or with shortening of the lateral arch of the foot.

Isolierte Frakturen des Kuboids sind sehr selten. In einem Zeitraum von 10 Jahren wurden in unserer Klinik vier Patienten mit dislozierter Kuboidfraktur behandelt. Die Frakturen wurden offen reponiert und intern stabilisiert, in 2 Fällen wurde eine autogene Spongiosaplastik durchgeführt. Die Nachuntersuchungsergebnisse bezüglich Schmerzen und Funktion waren in allen Fällen gut bis sehr gut und damit besser als die mit konservativer Therapie erzielten und in der Literatur berichteten Ergebnisse. Wir empfehlen die operative Behandlung der Kuboidfrakturen, falls eine oder mehrere Gelenkflächen disloziert sind oder die laterale Fußlängssäule verkürzt ist.
