Currently, in the world of telecommunication there is a need to specify many similar protocols. In order to do these specifications as concise as possible, it is necessary the reuse parts of the descriptions. In this paper, the use of object-orientation in terms of SDL for the specification of such classes of protocols is shown. The paper summarizes the experiences of an ongoing project for specifying several of these protocols at Siemens in Berlin.
