Abstract
A procedure for simulating single-phase, turbulent fluid flow based on the lattice-Boltzmann method is described. In the large-eddy
approach to turbulence modeling, the Smagorinsky subgrid-scale model, supplemented with wall damping, is applied exclusively.
The assumptions underlying the model are discussed. Simulation results of some sample flow systems from chemical engineering
practice are presented, with an emphasis on experimental validation, and grid effects.
