Abstract

Surgical Principles
Hooks, pedicle screws, Schanz screws and cerclage wires are implanted into the posterior elements of the spine, i.e.the pedicles, laminae and transverse processes. Two 6 mm rods cut to proper length and bent to the desired shape are attached to these anchoring elements. Through appropriate techniques of distraction, rotation, compression and translation a 3-D correction can be obtained.
