Abstract

For decades now the question of purity and identity of the French language has been intense. In his work, Frédéric Beigbeder has contributed to this debate in his own particular way by opting for an approach that is deliberately and strategically paradoxical. Contrary to what many purists think (those who revel in nostalgia and regret), the author of Windows on the Worlds believes that the French ought to accept the phenomenon of cross-breeding and hybridization which currently transforms the French language. Accordingly, Beigbeder increasingly uses an anglicized French, or, in other words, a globalized French.
