Technical analysis provides an alternative, and in some ways simpler, method of predicting stock movement. The majority of existing genetic algo- rithm approaches in the financial area look at fundamental stock characteristics to determine trading rules. Our hypothesis is that one can develop a genetic al- gorithm that simultaneously considers many different technical rather than fun- damental characteristics to develop rules that indicate attractive buying opportu- nities and signal that it is time to sell specific stocks.
