Smart Homes and Environments have the capability to compensate some of the occupant’s disabilities and can extend the time
people can live in their preferred environment by increasing their autonomy. Therefore such environments are an important
approach to independent living of people with disabilities and older persons. For this reason Smart Environments are also
a main topic of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme. This special thematic session deals with Smart Environments and
related developments and research. The topics reach from “A Living Lab for Ambient Assisted Living” over “EasyControl – universal
control system” to “A Smart Indoor Navigation Solution based on Building Information Model and Google Android”.
