We present results for an asynchronous timing recovery algorithm for three mobile satellite modems operating at either 2400 bps or 4800 bps. Both coherent and differentially coherent modems are considered. The timing recovery is completely based on choosing sample points for detection and timing control based on an oversampled and interpolated input signal. As such the sole modem interface is a uncontrolled A/D convertor and timing recovery is asynchronous with the receiver A/D clock. In addition, a polyphase filter interpolation timing recovery algorithm is modified and tested. The satellite modem applications involve filtered BPSK, filtered QPSK and 8-PSK with trellis coded modulation.
