Abstract

1.  A single-cylinder unit, designated NATI-69, has been developed for the classification rating of Group D oils with respect to detergency, and also for research on the behavior of oils under conditions simulating those in current and future high-performance tractor diesels.
2.  A set of conditions has been selected and a procedure developed for rapid 60-h tests that can provide a reliable differentiation of Groups G and D motor oils with respect to detergency.
3.  The results of tests on various Soviet and foreign Group D oils in the NATI-69 unit are in agreement with the results from long-term test-stand evaluations (960 h) and service tests (2000 h) in the high-performance supercharged tractor diesels SMD-62, A-41T, and YaMZ-238NB.
