Die Kosten im Gesundheitssystem werden seit 2004 per Gesetz über das diagnosebezogene Fallpauschalensystem (German diagnosis related groups, G-DRG) vergütet. Im Rahmen der komplexen Osteitisbehandlung fehlt hier eine detaillierte Abbildung der Diagnosen in Kombination mit den durchgeführten Prozeduren. Somit ist eine leistungsgerechte Vergütung über das DRG-System nicht gewährleistet. Um eine Kostendeckung zu erreichen, sind häufig Verkürzungen des stationären Aufenthalts nötig. Hierbei kann es zu suboptimalen ambulanten Verläufen mit prolongierter Behandlungsdauer kommen.

Since 2004, the costs of health care have been remunerated according to the law regulating the diagnosis-related group system (DRG). For the complex therapy of osteitis, a detailed picture of the diagnoses and procedures carried out is still not available. Thus, effective remuneration is not guaranteed using the DRG system. In order to cover treatment costs, reductions in the length of hospital stays are often necessary. This can lead to suboptimal out-patient treatment courses with prolonged treatment times.
