To adapt the cryogenic source of polarized deuterons POLARIS for the new superconducting accelerator NUCLOTRON, an appreciable
increase of the intensity of the polarized deuteron beam from POLARIS is needed. One of the ways is to update the existing
Penning ionizer for rising the ionization efficiency. The beam current increasing method for polarized ion sources with Penning
ionizer, some results of using of an ion trap and a pulse extraction are presented.
