Abstract

Background: A tense or competitive atmosphere in the operating room and unprofessional communication skills between members of the thorax and abdominal organ retrieval teams may lead to donor instability, inadequate organ preservation or surgical injury.
During organ procurement, thorax and abdominal teams, which are involved in the organ procurement, have to communicate adequately about the various steps of operation technique, the thoracic organs that have been accepted for transplantation and the time of use of medication with side effects that could be detrimental for the abdominal organs. This applies to the surgical teams, the scrub nurses, the anaesthesia team as well as the transplant coordinators.
Conclusion: If you want to feel content and respected, try to communicate properly.
Co-operation and understanding especially between thorax and abdominal surgeons, during multiorgan procurement – could have a huge influence on the operating room personnel and also on the quality of the procured organs.
