Currently heavy e-applications/databases are needed for any financial organization and educational institutions for its effective
and efficient business processes. In order to run these applications viz. ERP, live video conferencing, streaming services,
communication services, other online and real time services seamlessly, there is great need of better underlying networking
structuring and power requirement for higher availability and reliability. Therefore data center requires proper and easy
maintenance, cooling systems, power system, structured cabling and proper placement of equipment. In this paper a need of
planning and designing of critical data centers has been explored and discussed. In this regard some related international
standards of planning and designing critical data centers have been reviewed. The designers and implementers of such organization
and institutions may utilize this knowledge and work to design and implement critical data centers as per their requirements.
This paper presents the architecture followed for building the data center at higher education commission where minimum Tier-II
level design recommendation was planned as per the requirements.
