The method of mixed anhydrides was used to synthesize some protected oligopeptides of the collagen type: Cbo-(Gly-Pro-Pro)n-OCH3, where n=1–8, and Cbo-(Gly-Pro-Ala)n-OCH3, where n=1–4.

Employing x-ray structure analysis and IR spectroscopy it was shown that a three-spiral structure of the collagen type is formed spontaneously in the sequence -Gly-Pro-Pro-when n=4.
