Abstract

Zwass claimed that in e-commerce there are five areas (commerce, collaboration, communication, connection, and computation) in which innovation opportunities could be found. This research is devoted to investigating one way of innovative collaboration among e-retailers and applies the concept of virtual warehousing under an online inter-organizational framework, so as to facilitate selling and to accelerate inventory depletion by resources sharing and mutual assistance. An online collaborative stock control and selling mechanism among e-retailers is therefore constructed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the constructed mechanism, two experimental B2C websites are also built for simulation analyses. According to experimental results, the constructed mechanism could indeed improve the efficiency of selling products for the participating e-retailers by shortening the average time to stock depletion up to 14%.
