Abstract

The vagina lies anterior to the rectum and posterior to the bladder. It measures 6–12 cm in length normally. The upper aspect terminates in a circular fold around the cervix to form the vaginal fornices. The vaginal surface is lined by non-keratinising stratified squamous epithelium and the wall comprises fibromuscular connective tissues (Figure 21.1).
