Abstract

Worldwide research has been carried out aiming at integrating VR technologies into CAD systems. Integration of VR technologies into CAD systems is a complex process. In the majority of applications VR technologies are used for the visualization and evaluation of previously generated CAD models [5, 7, 8]. The CAD system exports geometrical data to the VR system that is used separately for immersive visualization. The ARCAD [3] system represents an example of the integration of augmented reality into the AutoCAD system. The aim of this application is to use augmented reality technologies for the detailed visualization and evaluation of the layered CAD model in the real environment. While an HMD device was used to visualize the model, every time the CAD model needs modifying, the user is required to return to the CAD system.
This paper presents another modality of CAD-VR integration, allowing the user to create and manipulate 3D AutoCAD models in an intuitive and natural manner using VR technologies, and also offering the possibility of visualizing the 3D model within the immersive virtual environment.
