Abstract

1.  A study was made, by the Knudsen effusion method, of the vaporization of the titanium nitride TiN0.86 at 2143°K. The equilibrium partial vapor pressures of titanium and nitrogen above TiN0.86 were found.
2.  The vaporization coefficent of this compound was evaluated and found to be agr = 1.3 · 10–2.
3.  On the basis of the Third Law of thermodynamics, the standard heat of formation of TiN0.86 from the elements was found to be -66.8 ±1.4 kcal/g-form.
