Abstract

The only reason that Bellevue has not become a place of psychoanalytical pilgrimage is its distance to the city of Vienna. It is located at a place known as Himmel (literally: heaven) that lies at the end of Himmelstrasse in the 19th district, and is difficult to reach for those who rely on public transport. But overcoming our laziness, we take the 38A bus from the terminus of the U4 Underground line at Heiligenstadt, and get off at Cobenzl car park about 20 minutes later. After leaving the car park we turn right and, after about 400 metres, we come to Himmelstrasse on the left which we follow until we reach a small car park on the right. The monument to what is probably the world’s most famous dream is to the left on a broad meadow that lies somewhat above the car park.
