A low mass-to-light ratio for the baryonic component of spiral galaxies is advocated by a number of dynamical studies and
by cosmological simulations of galaxy formation. We discuss the possibility of obtaining low mass-to-light ratios for the
stellar component in discs, by changing the Initial Mass Function and the Star Formation History.
