In this work a set of basaltic rocks and the basalt glasses prepared from them were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Mössbauer identification of the iron containing species was a helpful tool for the characterization of these basaltic rocks in order to select suitable raw materials for the preparation of glasses and glass-ceramics with given technical features.
