The taxonomic status of
Presbytis barbei
Blyth has been discussed in the light of fresh collections obtained from its type locality
viz Tripura, India. The study reveals that
Presbytis barbei
Blyth (1847) is nothing but a synonym of
Presbytis phayrei phayrei
Blyth and the so called type specimens of
barbei present in the Zoological Survey of India, Calcutta, appear to be wrongly labelled specimens of
Presbytis cristatus atrior
Pocock.
