Abstract

■ Intraocular lens (IOL) selection in uveitis patients depends on the type of uveitis, expected surgical trauma and expected postoperative inflammatory reaction.
■ Hydrophilic acrylic foldable IOLs and heparin surface- modified (HSM) PMMA IOLs are used most widely and tolerated in uveitis patients.
■ Hydrophobic acrylic foldable IOLs may be used in cases of minimal surgical trauma and mild uveitic reactions.
■ In pediatric cataract cases, heparin surface-modified PMMA IOLs may have the best long-term prognosis.
■ Cataract surgery should consist of minimal invasive techniques with reduced energy application such as micro/hyperpulse technology or waterjet technology.
