Die Untersuchung von 3033 Selbstmördern Nordrhein-Westfalens, die sich im Jahre 1971 das Leben genommen haben, hat zunächst ergeben, daß weder die Mondphasen noch die Entfernung des Mondes von der Erde, noch das Ausmaß der erdmagnetischen Störungen einen Einfluß auf die Häufigkeit von Selbstmorden haben. Auch die Angabe, daß sich an Wochenenden besonders viele Menschen das Leben nehmen, haben sich nicht bestätigt. Statistisch gesichert ist aber die Tatsache, daß sich im Winter und Frühjahr sehr viel mehr Selbstmorde ereignen als im Sommer und Herbst.

An investigation of 3033 suicide cases in the province of Nordrhein-Westphalen in 1971 indicated that neither the moonphases nor the distance of the moon from the earth nor disturbances of geomagnetic activity have an influence on the frequency of suicides. Also, the reports that an especially high amount of persons commit suicide on weekends were not confirmed. Statistically proved, however, is the fact that the frequency of suicides varies according to the month of the year and that more people commit suicide in the winter and spring than in the summer and fall.
