The geological division was created in 1951, and for 50 years it solved scientific problems concerning the development of the mineral-raw materials base of the nuclear industry and supplying the base with uranium and other required components.
Geologists, mineralogists, and geophysicists from the division have worked in Ukraine, in Northern and Eastern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kirgizia and in many regions of the Russian Federation. A great deal of research was performed in the countries of Central Europe, and Mongolia, and recently in certain countries of Asia and Africa.
The new scientific information obtained by the division st has made a large contribution to the study of ore deposits. Books and articles, which played a large role in the founding of a new scientific discipline – uranium geology, were published on the basis of this material.
Geological and mineralogical schools for studying objects of radioactive raw material have been created and a large number of specialists have been trained in the division.
