The solubility of lithium methylate and ethylate in the corresponding alcohols was studied.

The existence of solvates LiOR·2ROH, dissociating with the formation of nonsolvated alcoholates and gaseous alcohols, was established in both systems by a tensimetric method. At equilibrium with the solution, LiOR·2ROH are desolvated at a temperature of 28° (Me) and 55° (Et). The peritectic transformation is accompanied by a change in the sign of the enthalpy of solution. The phase diagrams of the systems LiOR-ROH (just like M(OR)2-ROH, where M=Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) belong to the same type as Na2SO4-H2O.

The crystallooptical constants of LiOR·2ROH and LiOR, as well as the temperatures of the beginning of pyrolysis of the nonsolvated alcoholates, were determined.
